Website Credits

In case you’re curious, here’s a list of all the resources I’ve used to create this website.

Software & Hosting

WordPress

wordpress.org/download

WordPress is my content management system of choice, and has been for over 15 years. It astonishingly now powers 43% of the entire Internet.

Local

localwp.com

An incredible tool for WordPress websites—free, and ideal for both initial development and ongoing testing.

Divi

elegantthemes.com/gallery/divi

Divi is a combined theme and page builder that makes it quicker and easier to build beautiful websites—like this one! Child themes can also be purchased for Divi, to get things looking extra beautiful extra quickly. Although Divi is not the very best option for performance, by taking care to not overload sites in other ways and getting a solid hosting plan, Divi-built sites can still be pretty speedy. And speaking of hosting…

Lyrical Host

lyricalhost.com

Lyrical Host is a well established, UK-based website hosting company with excellent quality support. On top of all the basics you’d expect, their plans come with solid extras like free migrations, free malware scanning (and free clean-up, if necessary), SSL certificates, daily backups, and bonus resources.

Fathom Analytics

usefathom.com

Fathom Analytics is a brilliant, lightweight, privacy-focused alternative to Google Analytics. It keeps track of everything you need without getting overly detailed, and without the use of cookies—meaning that, because you don’t need permission from each visitor to track cookies first, more visit data is tracked overall!

Colour Palette

I love to use coolors.co to help me develop colour palettes. It’s a great tool because it allows me to see all my colours together in one spot, plus it’s easy to tweak colours a little lighter or darker to get things feeling just right. Additionally, their colour contrast checker helps me to make sure I’m choosing colours that are going to be suitably accessible for website visitors.

Fonts

For headings, I chose Josefin Sans in all caps. The main body text is Crimson Pro. And for the little flourishes, its the delightfully named Meow Script!

I’m a big fan of Google Fonts for a wide choice and ease of use—but not for privacy. Did you know that a German court recently ruled that embedding Google Fonts violates GDPR? As a result, I do not embed the fonts from Google directly, so that my website visitors are not subject to that extra, totally unnecessary tracking.

Legal Documents

To protect the website owner, properly inform website visitors, and comply with various laws around the world, every single website should have a privacy policy (including information about cookies) and a website terms of use. Since I’m not a legal expert, I use On Your Own Terms for these important documents.

I love this service because I answer questions like I’m filling in a form, and then my ideal documents are generated based on my answers. And, bonus, they’re not full of jargon. Wherever possible, they’re written in plain English.

The Website Protection Bundle includes both of these vital documents in one discounted purchase, so this is what I typically recommend to clients.
